SNEAKER PIMP ATL RECAP

SNEAKER PIMP HITS ATL

~Marisa Mendez

Sneaker heads from all over flocked to the "A" on Saturday, September 22nd for Sneaker Pimps' Atlanta tour stop. Sneaker Pimps is the world's largest touring sneaker show featuring over 1000 pairs of rare, limited edition, vintage, celebrity signed, artists collaborated sneakers and a collection of sneaker inspired artwork, fashion and photography. Atlanta Contemporary Art Center was packed from wall to wall with uniquely designed sneakers, trendy hip-hop heads, and hungry entrepreneurs with business cards in hand, very eager to network. An extremely successful night to put it mildly, Sneaker Pimps fused hip-hop, fashion, and art into one unforgettable evening in ATL.

Whether displayed on the walls or being worn on the feet of all the fashionistas in the building, sneakers here were crazy! Colors were key, as were the level of creativity. Air Force Ones with painted on Fruit Loops and filled with real milk and cereal and even a spoon is just an example of how crazy these kicks got. If you weren't there for the sneakers, perhaps you came to skateboard! In one of the many rooms, there was a full ramp, available to anyone willing to try. And if that wasn't enough for you either, seeing great performances and rubbing elbows with your favorite hip-hop artists put it over the top. Kinfolk Kia Shine was in the building, and ended up giving an impromptu performance of his current single "Krispy" and upcoming single "WOW," much to the audience's excitement. Later in the night, Virginia rap superstars The Clipse came through and performed an amazing hour-long set that had the audience going nuts. And it was a WRAP when Yung Joc popped in for a surprise appearance.

The final 3 stops on the 2007 Sneaker Pimp tour will be Miami on 9/29, Philly on 10/6, and NYC on 10/13. Be sure to check it out if you're in the area because you never know what or WHO you might see!
